WOW! God's Peace! - Storm in a Jar

Prayer Adventure.jpg

Remember – you don’t have to pray, you can use these activities to think and reflect too.

You will need:

  • An empty jam jar

  • Oil

  • Glitter

  • Food colouring

  • Water

To make your Storm in a Jar:

  • Open the jar and add about 100ml of oil, until the jar is a quarter full.

  • Add a few drops of food colouring and half a teaspoon of glitter.

  • Fill it up to just under the top with water.

  • Screw the top back on, really tight. Get an adult to double check it.

  • (If you’ve got sticky tape at home it might be a good idea to seal it shut again.)

  • Your jar is ready!

Sometimes life can feel like everything has been shaken up – particularly over the last couple of months. Schools closed and we had to learn at home; cinemas, libraries, swimming pools and other places all closed, so there was nowhere to go; even some grown-ups had to stay at home instead of going to work. It’s starting to get better now, but life felt really different for a while and maybe it still does. But God still loves us and wants to help us. Just like Jesus helped his friends in the boat. Sometimes he stops the chaos on the outside, and sometimes he helps us to feel peaceful even though life is still hard.

Spend a few minutes quietly looking at your jar you have made. Shake it up into chaos and watch it as it calmly settles into peace. You can do this over and over again to help you feel peaceful.
